Wal-Mart creates new gun rules
Wal-Mart, the largest retailer of firearms in the US, has introduced a voluntary gun control code.
The code calls for the creation of a computerised log of gun crimes linked back to the retailer.
Wal-Mart says customers purchasing a gun after coming up on the trace alert system will be asked to fill out a declaration that they meet all legal requirements to purchase a weapon. Signage will be posted that clearly spells out the responsibilities of the purchaser.
Wal-Mart says all firearm sales should be videotaped and the tapes maintained for six months.
And to guard against potential criminals, Wal-Mart has also recommended that all weapons be securely locked away in cases or racks in customer accessible areas.
